Ana Piquer ^^ Workshop: The Ancient magic of dreams

June 16, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

June 16 and June 17, 18:00 – 19:30

Nahua/Mexican artist Ana Piquer will teach us how to navigate in our dreams and connect with non-Western languages as a way of political resistance.

The tonal drawing is a tool of the Olmec “science” or “art” of dreams that allows us to delve into the depths of our being from the attention and perception of the symbol and the line. On this journey through the world of dreams we will learn to trace some of the main symbols of the Nahua cosmovision of central Mexico and we will relate them to the particular cosmovision of the participants. For this process it will be necessary that after taking the workshop, the participants sleep at night following some instructions and return the next day to tell us what they have dreamed.

Mexican visual and textile artist (Mexico City, 1995). Ana has a BA in Art History from the Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México, Postgraduate studies in Art from Österlenskolan för Konst och Design in Sweden and is currently studying the MA in Curatorial Studies at Universidad de Navarra. She lives and works in Pamplona, Spain.

Her artistic practice arises from the recognition of a problem: her native culture has historically been marginalized and denied. Her cultural heritage comes from the indigenous Nahua and Mixtec traditions of central Mexico, however, like many other Mexicans, she grew up with the policies of acculturation and cultural whitening.

She’s currently interested in the relationship between images, body, myths and language (imago, soma, mythos and logos) and how these are activated and ordered with the movement. Likewise, she’s working on understanding writing as in pre-Hispanic times as the means to produce images and discover what narratives, beings and affections can arise from it. She understands the image as a detonator of knowledge.

Her work has been exhibited in Mexico, Sweden and Spain.
